First & foremost I am a follower of Christ, and it is He who called me to midwifery. I discovered my passion for birth in 1997 when I first experienced labor and delivery in nursing school, the power & raw emotion was utterly intoxicating. I graduated with my Bachelors in nursing from the University of Texas in Arlington & have been a part of birth ever since. I am drawn naturally to women & babies, I don’t seek them out however I always seem to find & admire them.
After 20+ years as a nurse, I wanted more than a 12-hour connection with the women I cared for. I had a desire to build a relationship while providing care throughout pregnancy & birth. I felt a strong calling from God, and many doors opened I couldn’t imagine I would ever walkthrough.
I graduated with a Masters's degree in Midwifery from Texas Tech.
Midwifery has become a mission for me. It brings me great joy to pour into women, advocating for & supporting them through education & a genuine desire to help them achieve the birth they have dreamed of. I believe this mission will cross many borders as I encourage women to birth naturally and empowered.
I learned about out-of-hospital birth during my clinical practice and enjoyed it so much I knew I wanted to practice outside of the hospital. Pregnancy & birth is a natural & normal process of life, removing medicine from birth allows the natural physiology to shine through, restoring the majesty of birth.
Midwifery care as a Certified Nurse Midwife (CNM) is the coupling of two disciplines: nursing and midwifery; and encompasses a full range of primary health care services for women from adolescence beyond menopause. CNM’s provide initial and ongoing comprehensive assessment, diagnosis, and treatment. Midwifery care also includes health promotion, disease prevention, and individualized wellness education and counseling. These services are provided in partnership with women and their families.
Midwifery is a calling and a mission for me. As often as possible, I participate in mission work, going wherever God leads to educate, empower, and care for women. I have been on a mission in Guatemala, El Salvador, and Uganda. While in Uganda, serving with Eden Mission, I was able to care for expecting moms during an annual Women's outreach. As well as participate in a workshop with other midwives providing continuing education.
